Time is the flying time where the listing gives it separately, otherwise the stated duration including the landing.
The guided walk descends about 800 m through beech forest to Brod Bay; the operator asks for medium fitness and does not take children under 8. On the self-guided version, the walk from Brod Bay along the lake to the Kepler car park takes about 1.5 hours, plus another 45 minutes into town, if you skip the water taxi. The helicopter only flies you up; both trips end at the lake.
Fiordland is one of the wettest regions in New Zealand, and every flight depends on the weather. Fiordland Helicopters refunds in full if it cannot fly because of the weather. Plan a spare day if you can.
Every flight listed here can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before departure (checked on each product page).
The helicopter takes you up to Mount Luxmore on the Kepler Track and you walk back down. The full-day version is guided: 8 km with an 800 m descent to Brod Bay and a water taxi across the lake. The 4-hour version from Te Anau Airport is self-guided: you walk at your own pace and return by water taxi or on foot.
The operators set their own limits, and they are listed on each booking page. Examples: The Helicopter Line's Tasman Glacier heli-hike is from age 10 with a maximum of 150 kg including equipment; the guided Kepler Track day asks for medium fitness and is not for children under 8.
You can cancel every listed flight free of charge up to 24 hours ahead. Several operators also refund in full if they cannot fly because of the weather or too few passengers. The exact terms are on each booking page.
